Chrome 151 Update Fixes Critical Security Vulnerabilities

Chrome 151 Update Fixes Critical Security Vulnerabilities

Posted on July 30, 2026 By CWS

Google has rolled out a significant update to Chrome, upgrading it to version 151.0.7922.71.72 for Windows and macOS, and 151.0.7922.71 for Linux. This update, which will be distributed over the next few days and weeks, addresses numerous security concerns.

Comprehensive Security Enhancements

The latest release incorporates 370 security fixes, targeting vulnerabilities in essential browser components like graphics and networking. Google has limited access to detailed bug entries until most users have installed the update, minimizing the risk of exploitation.

Internal teams at Google played a key role in identifying these vulnerabilities using advanced automated tools such as AddressSanitizer and MemorySanitizer. This proactive approach helps in mitigating risks effectively.

Critical Vulnerabilities Addressed

Chrome 151 resolves seven critical vulnerabilities, marked as CVE-2026-17650 to CVE-2026-17656. These include significant ‘use-after-free’ issues in components like Compositing and Skia, which could allow unauthorized code execution.

Additional critical flaws involve race conditions in the Updater and insufficient input validation in graphics libraries such as Dawn and ANGLE. Such vulnerabilities can result in sandbox escapes and privilege escalations.

Broader Security Implications

Beyond critical issues, Chrome 151 addresses high-severity vulnerabilities across V8, Navigation, and other modules. These issues often relate to memory errors, which can lead to remote code execution.

Medium and low-severity flaws in subsystems like Autofill and WebXR were also fixed. While individually less impactful, collectively, they highlight the need for ongoing security improvements.

Encouragement for Immediate Updates

Google credits its security teams and external researchers for identifying these vulnerabilities before they could be exploited. However, the sheer number of fixes, especially those related to memory corruption, makes it crucial for users and organizations to update Chrome to version 151 promptly.

This update is vital for reducing exposure to possible exploitation campaigns and ensuring the robustness of browser security.
