Okta Expands Security with Permiso Acquisition

Okta Expands Security with Permiso Acquisition

Posted on July 30, 2026 By CWS

Okta’s Strategic Move in Cybersecurity

In a significant move to bolster its cybersecurity capabilities, Okta announced on Thursday its agreement to acquire Permiso Security. Permiso, known for its expertise in cloud-native identity security, focuses on identifying and mitigating threats across diverse identity types in multi-cloud settings. This acquisition marks Okta’s venture beyond mere identity management, allowing it to delve deeper into security operations and enhance its position in the identity threat detection and response (ITDR) market.

Enhancing Identity Security Framework

Integrating Permiso’s innovative technology into Okta’s existing identity security framework aims to fill operational gaps and amplify threat detection capabilities across various identity categories. Ely Kahn, Okta’s Chief Product Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, emphasizing the potential to secure complex environments where humans, applications, service accounts, and AI agents interact. Permiso’s established expertise in identity threat detection and its skilled threat research team are anticipated to significantly advance Okta’s capabilities in this domain.

Post-acquisition, Okta plans to integrate identity threat detection with identity posture management, creating a unified security solution. This integration leverages Permiso’s capabilities to enhance the overall security offering, providing comprehensive protection throughout the identity lifecycle.

Impact on Security Operations Centers

Beyond enhancing product functionalities, this acquisition extends Okta’s reach into the heart of the Security Operations Center (SOC). By collaborating more closely with enterprise Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), Okta aims to address evolving security operations challenges. The incorporation of Permiso’s threat research division, P0 Labs, into Okta’s framework will provide deeper insights into post-authentication behaviors in cloud and AI environments, thereby enriching threat detection and intelligence operations.

Okta’s existing threat intelligence capabilities will be complemented by this acquisition, strengthening the company’s ability to conduct threat hunting and refine its product development roadmap. This strategic move is set to enhance Okta’s standing in the cybersecurity landscape, providing robust security solutions to its clients.

Acquisition Timeline and Financial Details

The transaction is expected to be finalized in the third quarter of Okta’s fiscal year 2027, pending standard closing conditions. According to Okta, the acquisition will not impact the financial guidance previously issued in May 2026. While the financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed, this strategic decision underscores Okta’s commitment to expanding its cybersecurity footprint.

This acquisition is a clear indication of Okta’s proactive approach in fortifying its security offerings, positioning itself as a leader in identity threat detection and response. As the cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve, Okta’s expanded capabilities will likely play a crucial role in safeguarding complex digital environments.
