Data Breach at Frontline Education Affects Over 1.3 Million

Data Breach at Frontline Education Affects Over 1.3 Million

Posted on November 3, 2026 By CWS

Frontline Education has reported a significant data breach impacting over 1.3 million individuals, where personal information was compromised. The breach occurred due to a vulnerability in a third-party software product, which was exploited on August 14, granting unauthorized access to Frontline’s systems.

Details of the Security Breach

Frontline Education, a provider of administrative software tailored for K-12 school districts, acted swiftly to rectify the security flaw and strengthen its defenses. The breach was fully contained by August 15, according to the company’s incident notification.

An investigation revealed that the compromised data included personal information from both school district staff and students, sourced from Frontline Central and School Health Management products. The breach potentially exposed names, Social Security numbers, birthdates, driver’s license numbers, passport and other government IDs, health insurance details, including Medicaid IDs, and student IDs.

Response and Notifications

In response to the breach, Frontline has been communicating with affected school districts and has initiated the process of notifying individuals whose information may have been compromised. Notifications are being sent via email or postal mail, as required.

While the exact number of affected individuals remains undisclosed, filings with Attorney General’s Offices in multiple states suggest that the breach impacted at least 1,298,917 people. Additional filings in states like California, Indiana, and Iowa, along with others that may not have online data breach portals, suggest the total could exceed 1.3 million.

Measures for Affected Individuals

To mitigate the impact, Frontline is offering two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to affected U.S. adults. Additionally, qualified minors will receive free dark-web monitoring services.

SecurityWeek has sought further details from Frontline regarding the breach and will provide updates as more information becomes available. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges in securing personal data in educational environments, emphasizing the need for robust cybersecurity measures.

Related incidents include a hack of the Florida Student Aid website, affecting 4.9 million people, and data breaches at Revolve and Chainalysis, impacting hundreds of thousands. These events underscore the growing cyber risks faced by organizations handling sensitive information.
