Opal Security Secures $23M to Enhance AI Identity Governance

Posted on June 6, 2026 By CWS

Opal Security, a leader in identity governance solutions, has successfully raised $23 million in its latest funding round. This investment elevates the total capital accumulated by the company to $59 million, underscoring its rapid growth and innovation in AI-driven identity management.

Investment Led by Prominent Venture Firms

The new funding round was spearheaded by Greylock and Battery Ventures, with further contributions from Cambium Capital. These investors recognize the potential of Opal’s AI-native platform to transform identity governance practices across diverse sectors.

Established in 2020 and headquartered in San Francisco, Opal Security delivers cutting-edge solutions that offer real-time oversight and policy control over all organizational identities, including human employees, service accounts, and AI entities.

Addressing the Growing Need for AI Governance

With the widespread integration of AI across industries, there is an increasing demand for scalable access control solutions tailored for AI agents, which Opal adeptly provides. The company’s platform bridges the gap between policy design and implementation, ensuring seamless identity mapping and enforcement across cloud, SaaS, and on-premises systems.

Opal’s approach includes automating access management by granting just-in-time permissions and revoking them based on risk analysis. Human intervention is minimized, reserved for cases of heightened necessity.

Strategic Leadership and Team Expansion

CEO Howard Ting emphasized the significance of addressing identity governance challenges, stating that the new funds will empower Opal to tackle these issues effectively. Alongside the funding announcement, Opal introduced five key executives, including Sameer Mehta as Chief Product Officer and Alex Pien as Chief Technology Officer, to drive its strategic initiatives.

Since early 2026, Opal has accelerated its recruitment, with over 60% of its workforce joining this year, primarily bolstering the engineering, product development, and market expansion teams.

As Opal Security continues to innovate in AI identity governance, it positions itself as a pivotal player in the evolving landscape of digital security.
