Barracuda Vulnerabilities Risk Root Access Breach

Barracuda Vulnerabilities Risk Root Access Breach

Posted on November 3, 2026 By CWS

Barracuda Networks has recently revealed critical information about two significant security vulnerabilities affecting its products. These flaws, if exploited in tandem, could enable unauthorized users to bypass security measures and obtain root access on compromised devices.

Details of the Vulnerabilities

The first vulnerability is an authorization bypass issue, identified as CVE-2026-116606, with a CVSS score of 9.3. The second is a command injection flaw, labeled CVE-2026-111560, scoring 8.6 on the CVSS scale. These vulnerabilities pose a severe risk, especially when combined, as they allow attackers to circumvent authorization protocols and potentially gain elevated control over devices.

Specifically, CVE-2026-116606 targets the Email Security Gateway, whereas CVE-2026-111560 affects a broader range of products, including the Email Security Gateway, Load Balancer Application Delivery Controller, Message Archiver, WAF Control Center, Web Application Firewall, and Web Security Gateway.

Exploitation and Mitigation Measures

According to Barracuda, exploitation requires access to a product’s administrative interface. As a precaution, the company advises organizations to limit exposure of these interfaces to the internet. By restricting access to trusted internal networks and employing robust network access controls, companies can significantly reduce their susceptibility to these attack vectors.

Moreover, Barracuda emphasizes the importance of keeping systems updated. Customers are urged to ensure their devices are operating with the latest firmware versions and that all critical security patches have been applied. For devices that are multiple firmware versions behind, several updates may be necessary to enhance protection.

Conclusion and Future Outlook

The discovery of these vulnerabilities underscores the ongoing challenges in maintaining network security. Barracuda’s advice highlights the critical need for proactive cybersecurity measures, including regular updates and restricted access protocols. As cyber threats evolve, organizations must remain vigilant and responsive to safeguard their systems against potential breaches.
